Quoting from the book Manufractured: The Conspicuous Transformation of Everyday Objects: "Much of Berman's work also has a strong affinity with the traditional craft of quilting. When she first began constructing objects from printed steel dollhouses, she drew both aesthetic and technical inspiration from quilt patterns. The dollhouses were printed with wallpaper and cabinetry on the inside, bricks and siding on the outside, offering a wealth of colors and patterns."
